October Wrap-Up: My Adventure Store

A crowd, a contest, a cause

The October meetup of the Toronto Travel Massive was held at the newly branded MyAdventure Store on Bloor St. W. in the Annex. The MyAdventure Store is the result of a partnership that combines the talents of both Flight Centre and Intrepid Travel — and it’s a great place to hold a travel-related party. We had a great turnout of old and new members, and the MyAdventure Store treated us to sushi, drinks and even Hallowe’en candy.

The highlight of the evening, of course, was finding out about the results of the Intrepid Travel fundraising contest. You can read about the contest on this post, Win a trip to India with Intrepid. Whoever raised the most funds for The Intrepid Foundation / Deepalaya project to help street kids in Delhi won an Intrepid Travel trip to India, airfare included.

Before the results were announced, TTM co-founder Mariellen Ward ran a raffle for prizes that included the prizes in the raffle her Breathedreamgo blog was hosting, plus some great gifts from Ontario Tourism. In 10 minutes she raised an additional $130 thanks to the spontaneous generosity of the Toronto Travel Massive members. The results of the raffle are posted on her blog, The Intrepid Travel / Deepalaya contest winners.

After the raffle, Katy and Mick from Intrepid Travel announced the winners of the fundraising contest. Kirsten J of Hopscotch the Globe won the most creative fundraising award for raffling her “traveling pants,” which she wore on her around the world tour. She won an Urban Adventures of her choice anywhere in the world. Mariellen won the fundraising prize, an Intrepid trip to India, by raising $1,272 — which was matched by The Intrepid Foundation, which means $2,544 is going to Deepalaya. It was a fun and emotional night, and a great use of the talents and energy of this community.
