Unearthing Australian Travel Startups at SydStart

Earlier this month we headed to SydStart – Australia’s largest startup conference and exhibition – in search of Australian travel startups making waves down under. We found a number of companies building new ideas in travel and also met Travel Massive friends from Russia and Montreal.

Episode 1 – Australian Travel Startups Unearthed

We met 5 new travel startups from Sydney and found out what they were up to and why they decided to build companies in the travel industry:

Janeece Keller from BoundRound.com – a travel planning application for children
Rod Bishop from JayRide.com – a platform for airport transfers
Kevin Jochelson from Fiestafy.com – find festivals and events while you travel
Steve Nomchong from LocalTravelPlanner.com – a marketplace for DMOs
Steve Hui from iFlyFlat.com – helps people make the most of their frequent flyer points

Episode 2 – Interview with Max Kraynov, JetRadar

We also met Max Kraynov the CEO of JetRadar.com / AviaSales.ru – Russia’s largest travel search engine who recently launched a new product called Magic Fare. We asked Max what are the trends he see’s in the travel industry in 2015 and what are some tips for building a successful travel startup. According to Max, an appetite for risk is essential and without taking risks startup companies are much less likely to succeed.

Episode 3 – Interview with Lauren McLeod, FlightFox

Lauren’s Flight Fox – an expert flight search community – has migrated their team across the world in search of the perfect startup location and are currently based in Montreal. We ask Lauren for some advice on building a travel startup and learn about the story of Flight Fox’s migration around the world’s startup hubs including Silicon Valley and Berlin.
