[VIDEO] Rob Bloggeries at TBEX Travel Massive in Athens

Check out this latest video from Travel Massive community member Rob Bloggeries from Stop Having a Boring Life. Rob gives us a glimpse of TBEX Travel Massive from Athens. We also stopped to chat with him about travel, vlogging and his not so boring life.

You recently attended the TBEX Travel Massive meet-up in Athens, Greece. Tell us about it.

I’m a big fan of networking with others who write travel blogs. To be able to connect with like-minded individuals who are daring like me is a really refreshing experience. If you’re interested in travel as a profession, I highly recommend anyone to come to TBEX or Travel Massive. These social events are priceless and I always walk away with more friends and learning something new. I even made a video about my experience!

What inspired you to make the jump to your profession?

I always wanted to travel but realized that money was like gasoline and it doesn’t matter how ready a car is for the road – when it runs out of gas it’s not going anywhere. As a result I decided to work for a year but life happened and I had a career, serious girlfriend, the whole works. It took years of bouncing between staying or leaving until one side finally broke and I’ve never looked back.

How long have you been creating travel videos?

I started in 2009 and I mentioned in this video that it was the future but I didn’t continue vlogging. This time I hope to stick with it but at the end of the day, I’m a blogger first and foremost; it’s hard to juggle it all. That said, I’ve been writing about travel for over five years now so definitely ready to continue SHABL’s evolution and video is the medium that interests me most these days.

Your vlogging style is really unique using a personal point-of-view perspective. Do you have any tricks for taking video?

I started doing this style in 2012. It’s really fun to film and tells a great story. I’m using a GoPro out of the case because when it’s inside the audio is often horrific. Also, if you tape up all the lights it’s really stealth.

What tips do you have for telling a story?

If you do what you’re passionate about you really can’t fail. I think the best strategy hasn’t even been seen yet and the industry is just waiting for someone to do something totally out of the box. As long as people can connect with your story and it stirs some type of emotion I think you’re doing alright.

In your not-so boring life, what 3 crazy adventures did you have in 2014?

Climbing Mount Pico aka the highest point in Portugal which is located on the Azores Islands, skydiving at the Dead Sea, and my hot air balloon ride in South Africa.

What are your top destinations for 2015?

I’m super biased because I own land in the Corn Islands and I look forward to going back every winter. In my mind, it’s paradise and the ultimate form of escapism.

Apart from that, I think the Azores in Portugal will only increase in popularity. The islands are made up of nine volcanic islands in the middle of the North Atlantic with amazing vegetation, no real predators, insane hiking trails, views, fishing, food, golf, scuba diving, surfing and more. I’m strongly considering the idea of making the Azores my summer base as it’s half way between Europe and North America where most of my life happens. If you’re looking for something out there, look into the Azores.

Do you have any tips for someone who wants to stop having a boring life too?

Find what makes you happy and go for it with all your heart. Don’t sorta want it when you’re feeling enthusiastic and then let the dream die when you’re feeling down. Make it your number one priority and a burning desire; if you do this it’s only a matter of time until your dream comes true and I guarantee when that happens, you’ll stop having a boring life…
