Tips for Attending a Travel Massive Meet-Up
Whether it’s your first time attending a Travel Massive event or if you’re a regular who can’t wait to grab a drink and catch up with old friends about the latest in travel & tech there are a few ways to help you get even greater value from each event you go to. Recently we asked Travel Massive chapter leaders for their best advice on how to get the most out of a Travel Massive event.
Introduce yourself to strangers. The travel industry is full of friendly people so be open and introduce yourself – Talia Salem at Washington, DC Travel Massive
Bring business cards. You never know who you are going to meet at a Travel Massive meet-up that can lead to partnerships, collaborations or industry people who can help you move your travel business forward – Cristina from Toronto
Prepare your elevator speech. Be able to answer the question “So…what do you do?” as succinctly as possible while still giving out enough information to drum up interest. It’s all about starting conversations and inviting more questions about who you are! Lola Akinmade Åkerström from Stockholm
Become a regular. The more you attend, the more you’ll feel apart of the community and the more connections you will make. Bring along friends with similar interests – Stephanie Uniacke from San Francisco
Show up early and stay late if you can. It’s easier to meet people during off-times and share a drink. Adam Groffman from Berlin
Stand out. Wear a bright color or carry something distinctive. A bright jacket, killer shoes or sequined handbag is a great conversation-starter, and telegraphs your personality in an instant. Who doesn’t want to talk to a person in that festive hat?! You just know they’re gonna have something interesting to say! Sarah Greaves-Gabbadon from Miami
Don’t be shy if you are not directly involved in the tourism industry. You can always find synergies if you work in digital, culture, a festival or even sport for example – Claude Bénard from Marseille
Do ask questions! There are no stupid questions and the meet ups are designed to circulate and expand knowledge via speakers and peers. If you also have an idea for a future event put it forward to the chapter leaders. Travel Massive is designed to be an interactive and organic network and we love to hear what attendees both like and want more of – Fay MacDonald from Brighton
Keep the conversation going after the event. Follow people you meet at Travel Massive on social media and connect at future meet-ups –Jess Moss from Washington

Follow up with everyone who you spoke to or exchanged cards with after the event. I’ve had great opportunities come from those connections. Check out the Travel Massive Twitter account and hashtag to try and connect with other travelers ahead of time – Arnette from Los Angeles
Support one another. Travel Massive is about community. Make the effort to talk to new members so that they feel welcome. Share ideas, share one another’s projects, exchange business tips and skills, help each other out, and continue to keep in touch. Alicia Drewnicki from London
And if all that fails… feed them! Here’s how Petra at Travel Massive Prague connects:
