Silicon Valley Travel Massive with Gogobot

In July, Travel Massive came back to Silicon Valley in the most Silicon Valley way possible — on the hip indoor/outdoor patio of a Peninsula startup office.

The event was hosted by travel planning resource, Gogobot at their Menlo Park headquarters. About 35 people came out from across the travel industry including travel startups, writers, bloggers, tour guides, travel agents, and more. Most were South Bay and Peninsula based, but a few came from San Francisco and the East Bay.

Gogobot co-founder Travis Katz, welcomed us and introduced his social network for planning trips close to home and around the globe. The network’s interest-based “tribes” such as family, foodie, luxury, and LGBT help you get recommendations that fit your travel interests. The Gogobot team made it a fun event with global games and travel swag (foldable sunglasses, cellphone wallets, and fanny packs — they are back, right?) The team smartly converted their breakroom into a giant photo booth — each wall covered with an inspiring (and selfie-worthy) view from around the globe.

There was talk of upcoming trips, things to see, do and eat, as well as plenty of card swapping, introductions and pro travel talk. I can’t tell you how many times I overheard someone saying, “I’m so glad Travel Massive is FINALLY down here”.

It’s an exciting time for our new Silicon Valley chapter — we just passed 100 registered members and we’ve barely started reaching out to the South Bay and Peninsula based travel industry. I look forward to seeing the community grow!
