Meet Tudor Maxim, Chapter Leader of Bucharest

This week in our Leader of the Pack series we meet Tudor Maxim, founder of multiple online portals and niche start-ups across Romania, including the Pura Vida Hostel Network. Tudor is a Travel Massive Chapter Leader for Bucharest Travel Massive.

Tudor is law school graduate. Before finishing school he started his entrepreneurial career with a innovative advertising agency, Elevate. He soon after switched his focus to the travel industry, combining his passion to travel with his professional life.

Tudor owns eight hostels in five different regions of Romania.
To give more value to the guests of the hostels Pura Vida opened also a sky bar, two beach bars, one restaurant and a co-working hub.

How did you first get involved with Travel Massive?

Travel is my life number one priority and for almost half of the year I am exploring the world. While I was in California I had the opportunity to participate in the launch of Travel Massive Silicon Valley. After learning about the event, I knew it was a great opportunity to get involved with.

I met great people in a very friendly atmosphere. I then asked if Travel Massive was present in Romania and built the connections moving forward.

What motivates you to be part of Travel Massive?

People that have a passion for travel as more than a hobby, but as a job are special people with great energy and positive vibes.

I enjoy being part of an international community that has common values and freely shares them.

What makes your city a great place for Travel Massive meet-ups?

Bucharest is an emerging capital of the European Union. We have one of the highest economic growth. Tourism plays a growing role and there are many opportunities within the area.

What kinds of current or emerging startups, travel companies, and tourism initiatives exist?

Within our Travel Massive community we have classic travel agencies, tourism boards, hotels, hostels and a growing number of tour and activities organizers.
The guided tours are increasingly popular, especially the ones that showcase the authentic Romanian experience and the less touristic parts of the city.

What were your last events like?

We’ve had two events so far and both were a great success. The first event was held in the newly opened Pura Vida Social Sky Bar, on 7 Smârdan Street, right in the middle of the Old Town of Bucharest. The roof top bar has an amazing view over the Old Town.

The second event was focused on how to grow tourism in Bucharest, especially now that our city is working to become the Cultural Capital of the European Union in 2021.

What is your best advice to a newcomer who wants to attend a Travel Massive event for the first time?
