Travel Documentary: Hit the Road Cambodia

As Travel Massive connects with more cities every month, we continually come across incredible travel industry insiders making positive impacts in tourism around the world. After a chance meeting with a film creator from Chicago – Ric Gazarian – we decided to create a featured article series on his upcoming travel documentary called Hit The Road: Cambodia

Here’s the 30 second lowdown on this project and why we’re featuring it: Our founder Ian and Ric met last year shortly before TBEX Bangkok, and came up with the idea of screening Ric’s film at Travel Massive chapters around the world (cool huh?) and sharing how the film was created with our members via an interview series. This is great way to inspire film creators in our community and share insights into how to create a travel documentary. Ric and his co-host Keith put some stickers on the tuk tuk and spread the word about Travel Massive on their adventures through Cambodia.

Hit The Road: Cambodia is an adventure-travel documentary. Here’s just a little sneak peek of what we’ll be sharing throughout the next year!

Who is Ric and Keith? What do they do?

Ric Gazarian and Keith King are two travelers, seeking adventure.  The pair teamed up initially in 2012 when they traversed India in an auto-rickshaw.  Their 12-day adventure was chronicled in the film, Hit The Road: India.

What is a “rally”?

As explained by Yahoo Travel, one of the first rallies dates back to 1911 in Monte Carlo as 23 cars gathered and raced to the finish line.  Today these rallies have metamorphosed into travel adventures exploring everything from overflowing metropolises to backwater villages.  These rallies get you off the beaten path and allow you to slowly explore the local culture.

What is the Rickshaw Challenge & why did they film it?

The Rickshaw Challenge is a grueling 2,000 km rally across India, all from the seat of your rickshaw. Regardless of weather or motor conditions, the game must go on.

Ric and Keith’s first film titled Hit The Road: India is a travel documentary following their adventures through India.  The Rickshaw Challenge began in Mumbai and ended 12 days later in Chennai. Hit The Road: India is an independent film which was produced by Manana Films studio.

What’s Next?!

After a successful release of Hit The Road: India, Ric and Keith have yet again teamed together to create a heart racing documentary exploring the beautiful country of Cambodia. As they jumped on their tuk-tuks (rickshaws) once more, they began a 1600 kilometre journey starting in Siem Reap. Their new challenge known as the Cambo Challenge was hosted by Large Minority.  It allows travellers to dive into Cambodian culture like never before.

The rally took place in October over 11 days (including camping and homestays).  Ten different teams from around the world competed in the Cambo Challenge.  Large Minority plans the route and the logistics for this journey.

Ric and Manana Films are producing the newest documentary, Hit The Road: Cambodia, scheduled to be released sometime next year.

In the meantime, Travel Massive and Hit the Road: Cambodia have teamed up to share with Travel Massive behind the scenes of the film, and to explore adventure and sustainable travel through the medium of film.
