Urban Adventures Wins World Responsible Tourism Award

This year at the World Travel Market (WTM) in London, England, there were various World Responsible Tourism Awards being rewarded to successful bloggers and businesses from across the world. We are proud to announce that Travel Massive sponsor Urban Adventures won the award Best for Engaging People and Culture. To get a better understanding of what it is like to receive such an honourable award, we had Urban Adventure’s General Manager Tony Carne answer a few questions for us.

How does this award influence your business?

“This award is extremely influential in shaping our direction. Winning this award just gives us the power to do more and go harder after something that every member of our team is passionate about: responsible tourism. Knowing that the industry (through things like the recognition in this award) and our customers (through their continued support) are on board also gives us great encouragement. We realise it isn’t just us who have a passion for using travel to transform people’s lives. And for us, transforming lives means the impact we, tour operators, can have both on our customers and on the people in the communities in which we operate.”

How did it feel after receiving this award?

“In one word, incredible. It makes every one of the hundreds of people connected through the Urban Adventures network feel proud and vindicated that the work they do each day means something. It is incredibly powerful. For a responsible-first travel business like Urban Adventures, these awards are the Oscars.”

Is there anything else you’d like to tell Travel Massive readers?

“We’ve just launched our ‘In Focus’ line-up of tours. It’s something we’ve been tinkering with on the sidelines for years and we can’t wait to really bring it to life. We want to create experiences that highlight people doing amazing things for their communities. We want to help them have the best chance at getting the exposure they deserve and, ultimately, succeeding. If you know anyone with a fantastic social enterprise that tells a great local story, and that would enhance the understanding of a destination for a traveller (or for a local in English-speaking destinations, for that matter), tell them to get in touch with us. We want to help them to create a way that tells that story in-person, that builds awareness of their mission, and that becomes an added revenue stream for them to do more good.”
