NestFiller Helps Elders Fill Unused Space

Today we’re introducing you to Brianna Carney, founder of NestFiller and travel insider with New York City’s Travel Massive. NestFiller helps older adults fill unused space in their home using platforms such as Airbnb.

Being a host on Airbnb can be exceptionally lucrative, however it can be time consuming and challenging. NestFiller helps hosts prepare their home for guests, lists it on five platforms, manages guest communications, optimizes pricing and schedules cleaning and key exchanges.

Margid and Twinney

NestFiller is based in Brooklyn, New York and helps older adults earn money by making it easy to fill unused space in their home through platforms such as Airbnb.

Who is your startup for?

We serve empty nesters, seasoned travelers, and snowbirds with unused space in their home. It’s for any older adult that could benefit from supplementing their saving but doesn’t have the time, money or energy to manage listing their unused space on short term rental platforms.

What inspired you to create this startup?

I spent some time working in India and met so many seasoned travelers who chose India based on price. I would spend days at the India Gate in Delhi and on the Ganges in Varanasi learning what it would take to get their friends to live their travel dreams. It came down to price more times than not.

Adults over the age of 60 have more unused room and spend more consecutive days away from their home than any other age group. Airbnb recently published a blog celebrating their 60+ host community which represents 10% of their hosts. We are making it easy to be a host on short term rental platforms.

What makes your startup different from other similar startups out there?

NestFiller understands that opening up your home is different when you’re 20 versus 60.We handle all the heavy lifting for first time hosts giving them peace of mind, resulting in significant supplemental income that can be life changing for seasoned adults.

NestFiller is starting to offer hosting supplies. When you open your home as a host on home sharing platforms there are a number of supplies you need to consider purchasing, spare sets of sheets, spare light bulbs, a fan, towels and bathroom hooks, we’re making it easy for hosts to find and secure supplies.

How is your startup changing the future of the industry to make travel better?

The sharing economy is undoubtedly changing the way we travel. NestFiller subsidizes travel costs through helping older adults open up their home to other travelers. It’s an ecosystem where everyone wins.

The home sharing economy is bettering the lives of leisure and business travelers alike. The benefits for travelers go far beyond the obvious of saving money. Dietary concerns are given more consideration with access to kitchen, you’re given local insights and perspectives on the city you’re staying at, and homes often beat hotels in terms of comfort.

How have you gained traction for your startup?

NestFiller works closely with social and group travel providers to encourage their traveler to consider paying for their travels through hosting on NestFiller. We are working to promote our content on blogs for baby boomers, snowbirds and empty nesters.
