What are your top tips for new content creators and website owners when it comes to starting with affiliate marketing?

Write about things that you are passionate and knowledgeable about, this will really come across to readers and when you start including affiliate links for products etc. your audience will trust your recommendations
Don’t fill your site with product links and banners, be selective about what you show and where you show it
Update your content, make sure you keep working to drive more users to your site. The more people who read your content the more chance there is for people to click on your affiliate links.

What do you find the best for conversions; links or display advertising? Why?

Interesting question, at affilinet in 2015 we saw just 2% of orders come through banners on our network so you could say that for affiliate links are the strongest way to drive conversions. However it should be noted that with affilinet’s new Performance Ads solution which delivers product led dynamic creative based on behaviour rather than context we are hoping to bring that closer to 10% and above so budding affiliate should certainly check that out!

What are 5 rules publishers should follow to keep their website genuine?

Write about things you are interested in
Be selective on the advertisers you work with, do they really fit your site?
Keep links in articles to a minimum, we suggest no more than three per article or one every 500 words
Keep the content fresh an interesting
Don’t write posts that are blatant advertising plugs

What is your top tip for being a successful affiliate?

Write great engaging content to help drive new visitors to your site and get your traffic up
Work with the right advertisers for you and make sure that affiliate is part of your wider strategy for your site
