GTRIIP’s New App Provides Easy Hotel Check-ins

Maxim Thaw Tint allows travellers to enjoy their travels by doing less waiting with the new GTRIIP app that offers hotel check-ins at ease.

GTRIIP provides document-less check-in at hotel lobbies and access to hotel rooms. Maxim is from our Travel Massive San Francisco Bay chapter and is here today to share with you a little more about what their new app has to offer.

Who is your startup for?

Hotels, serviced apartments, serviced offices, and co-working spaces.

What inspired you to create this startup?

While the experience of travel is generally positive, what puts a dent in these experiences are often the lapses in between like check-in and registration. These lapses can start as early as the first step into a hotel. We have come together to form GTRIIP, an app offering travellers a promise – to do less waiting.

GTRIIP uses Touch ID on iPhone, Nexus Imprint sensor for Android phones, for faster hotel and office check-in and issue of digital keys. By sending guest profile from app to kiosk without internet, we simplify registration. We partner with door lock manufacturers so our app can also open doors after check-in.

How did you build your startup?

We started with a two and a half men team. We came a long way since finishing studies at MIT where our co-founders met. Research and coding was actually done at our co-founder’s house and coffee shops in Los Angeles and Singapore. We started with a prototype version 1 for market testing at a few boutique hotels and offices. We have now secured government grants, and a version 2 released on the App Store and Play Store.

How is your startup disrupting the travel scene today?

For travellers, check-in is not such a hassle with GTRIIP which works privately and securely without internet connection or a SIM card in the smartphone, common for travellers without data roaming.

For properties, GTRIIP optimizes operations for a productivity gain, offers an improved experience at the property from the start, and can be setup up easily and affordably on an iPad kiosk.

How did you get your startup off the ground and gaining traction?

We have tested various revenue models and finally set on a software-as-a-service model. We have also formed partnerships with major door lock and smartphone manufacturers which was important to raise our seed round from angel investors in US and Singapore. Moving forward, we will polish our product further, fulfil the pre-orders received, complete strategic POCs, and raise a series A funding for the journey ahead and release version 3.0.

How is your startup changing the future of the industry or helping to make travel better?

The G in GTRIIP stands for global nature of travel, as well as the global universality that no one likes to wait idly. The two I’s in GTRIIP represent initial two co- founders, and our common vision to make the registration process easy for every user. In short, we envision a future of document-less travel, with less waiting.

Do you have any tips for new entrepreneurs who want to create a successful startup?

Entrepreneurs usually end up spending a prime chunk of their lives on the startup, often sacrificing on work-life balance. It helps if we really enjoy the journey. When we are working on a new cool product feature, all of us gets really excited and have a blast when we finally get it working successfully. We could not imagine doing the same for something we are not so passionate about.
