Success Story: Jane at GrownUp Travels

The following is a guest post by Travel Massive community member Jane Canapini.

Three years ago I attended my first ever Toronto Travel Massive meetup – it has been the best decision I made since I decided to start the blog Grownup Travels.

Blogging is about more than just writing or publishing content – it’s about being an entrepreneur, which can be a lonely and frustrating business at times. We work hard to cultivate a community of hundreds or thousands online, but many of us still need the opportunity to connect with people in the real world, especially ones that share our passion and have expert knowledge. It’s just one of the reasons I try to attend each event.

Community

Along with meeting other writers, photographers and editors whom I now consider not just colleagues but friends, attending Travel Massive has introduced me to other important industry channels like TBEX and blogger support groups on social media. Sometimes it’s a chance to just rant about my latest technical obstacle and find someone who can solve it for me!

FAM trips and opportunities

Equally importantly, Travel Massive has introduced me to sponsors and brand contacts that have resulted in tangible business opportunities. I have been invited to on FAM trips to the Great Lakes Bay region of Michigan, two sponsored trips in Ontario and have fostered an ongoing professional relationship with a representative from a Toronto PR firm – a relationship that is blossoming into a sponsored assignment with VisitFlorida this November.

Prizes

Oh, and did I mention the prizes?! It seems that every meetup, members have the chance to win something useful, sexy or just plain fun – and I’ve been extremely fortunate to have been a winner of some of these prizes, including a $500 travel voucher from G Adventures, and a ‘bleeding edge’ DSLR camera from Olympus which we reviewed on our blog. Henk, my husband and the photographer half of Grownup Travels, is still beaming with pride over that!

Travel Massive has grown exponentially since I’ve been a member of the Toronto chapter, and I can’t wait to see where this organization goes in the future. If the past two years have been any indication, Travel Massive promises to be one of the ‘ones to watch’ in this evolving travel industry. And I’m happy to be a part of it.
