A Solution to Cheaper Airport Parking

Jennifer Church and Andie Gibson, founders of AirportParkingHelper.com, help travelers find cheaper alternatives to on-airport parking at 138 airports across North America.

AirportParkingHelper.com is a site is for travelers who prefer avoiding airport parking bills. They publish airport-specific reviews that highlight multiple strategies to save money on parking.

Who doesn’t love saving a few bucks, especially when it comes to the airports? This is why we asked Jennifer and Andie, who are part of our NYC chapter, a little more about their business goals.

What inspired you to create this startup?

We love to travel, but hate wasting money – especially on something as boring airport parking. It made sense that we could build an online business around sharing the budget-friendly tips and tricks we learned to help fellow frugal travelers.

What makes your startup different from other similar startups out there?

We take an educational approach. Instead of focusing on one specific airport parking alternative (like off-site lots, for example), we lay out the pros and cons of multiple strategies. That way, travelers can easily determine which option best suits their needs, then compare rates, read customer reviews and book online. Getting this part of a trip figured out in advance can save money and reduce travel-day stress (and who doesn’t need that when flying these days?).

How did you get your startup off the ground and gaining traction?

We did a lot of research in the niche. The parking landscape is different for each airport, based on factors such as pricing, scarcity and traffic, so we knew it would be important to tailor the content while focusing on SEO. The site immediately resonated with fellow penny pinchers who realized this was an easy and painless way to reduce their airport parking bills.

Do you have any tips for new entrepreneurs who want to create a successful startup?

Do your due diligence.

Find a narrow niche where you can stand out by positioning yourself differently. Follow leaders in your industry and connect with them via communities like Travel Massive. Consider a partner who has skills that complement yours and can hold you accountable.

Perhaps most importantly, don’t be afraid to get outside of your comfort zone. We both had jobs in different industries (graphic/web design and magazine publishing) when we started AirportParkingHelper.com. The learning curve can be steep, but it’s so rewarding to see your hard work pay off.
