The countdown has begun to welcome a new year in travel – 2017! Here’s a look back at some of the travel companies we interviewed this year.

Here are just some of the great companies in the Travel Massive community from 2016:

Kiwi.com

Imagine starting up a business with your co-founder in a basement only to find yourself four years later with over 500 employees from 55 nationalities across the world. And offering the world some of the lowest cost airfares out there. This is the story of Czech-based Kiwi.com (formerly Skypicker), who have been gaining momentum in the online travel agency (OTA) market.

Springnest

Springnest makes it easier to embrace the power of digital marketing through beautiful, mobile-friendly websites, backed by tools to manage and market content. Their clients use Springnest to keep their websites current, but also to embrace content marketing through blogging and online promotions.

Moving Worlds

MovingWorlds is about helping people travel more intentionally. They match young professionals with organizations based on their skills –they call it Experteering.

BackTracker

The BackTracker app which is helping travelers discover places they didn’t know and allowing them to record their journey. The team had all backpacked extensively and had come across the same repeated problems. There was never a really interesting and easy way to record your journey, and it was very difficult to find up-to-date information.

Faretrotter

Faretrotter searches and compares every mode of transportation between two points to help make travel easier. Faretrotter is for travelers who need help discovering, searching, and comparing multiple route options between two locations.

Zoottle

How many of you reading this post have experienced poor internet quality even at the finest of hotels? This was exactly what inspired the team at Zoottle to build up an app which would help provide a solution. Zoottle is the social Wi-Fi for hotels.

Your Local Cousin

Your Local Cousin is a peer-to-peer service platform where travelers can ask for advice from locals via a conversation (Skype), e-mail or text and receive customized maps and itineraries. They have over 450 ‘Local Cousins’ from over 80 countries and 200+ cities. Locals get paid 70% of revenue. Travelers give detailed information about their budget, their travel companions, their interests and how they want to communicate.

Trazy

The world still lacks a fine online travel guide where travelers can get the most up-to-date travel information about where to visit and what to do in Korea. The founders at Trazy decided to create this online travel guide themselves to fill the gap in the market. Trazy (Travel+Crazy) is a travel platform where travelers can discover and instantly book handpicked travel activities and explore the most up-to-date destination information and travel guides.

Flystein

Flystein helps travelers find some of the best prices on flights for leisure or business, they will even try and beat the price you’ve found. Flystein is a service where flight hackers find some of the best and cheapest flights, saving you time and money.

Travelstart

Travelstart is one of the pioneers of online in Africa and the Middle East – offering online booking of flights, hotels, car rental, travel insurance and holiday packages. Founded in 1999 by Stephan Ekbergh (who’s an investor in Travel Massive), Travelstart employs more than 200 staff in 6 cities including Cape Town, Lagos, Cairo, Istanbul and Dubai. The company recently raised $40 M USD to expand their operations.
