Find, Save & Share Your Travel Tips With Pearl Share

Lucy OgilvieHead of Content at Pearlshare, helps travelers be prepared for their trips as soon as they land on the ground. Pearlshare is all about friends and trusted expert recommendations.

Lucy is a part of the Travel Massive London chapter and an active member of the community. To give Lucy our thanks, we wanted to share the Pearlshare story to Travel Massive members who are interested in finding an easier way to mark the places they find in their travels.

Pearlshare is kind of like a Pinterest account for travel. They are also a tool for businesses who want to take their 2D guides to places into the mobile space.

Here’s their story.

What inspired you to create this startup?

Pearlshare was actually founded by James O’Day, Oliver Brooks, and Michael Liebreich; I do the content and outreach. However, the reason I’m passionate about my work is that they really did discover a gap – there is no other quick, effective and ultimately beautiful way of sharing recommended places with others.

If anyone asked me before where I’d suggest they went for a drink, I’d have to trawl through my memory trying to remember ‘that place with the nice back garden’, then spend an hour recalling the name, then look it up on a google map. Now? I just send them my list called ‘London: Pint, anyone?’ (there are some crackers on there). It’s changed how I experience the world.

How did you help build Pearlshare?

Like any start-up, Pearlshare has gone through various stages – both with the app itself as we improve our technology and with who our audience are. Now we are at the stage where we are able to offer something brilliant to both consumers like myself, and to businesses and travel experts who want to improve their current set-up.

What makes your startup different from other similar startups out there?

There are similar start-ups. That’s undeniable. However, Pearlshare is different.

We’re always learning from our partnerships and consumers to make our product better. We are very open to new ideas and collaborations that benefit individuals and businesses and we are all very motivated and inspired by our amazing app that you can’t help but feel the excitement with us.

Do you have any tips for new entrepreneurs who want to create a successful startup?

Your end destination won’t necessarily be the one you started out with, and it’s ok to adapt and grow.

Also, don’t be afraid to be passionate. If you’ve got something exciting, share it with everyone.
