Tiplr Helps Travellers Find the Unexpected

Carmine Savarese and Tara Turner, along with Stefano Bonini and Olivia Lentucci are the Founders of Tiplr, a community platform of smart travelers seeking unique and authentic travel information.

Carmine and Tara are both a part of our Travel Massive New York City chapter and were proud to share their story as to how their startup, Tiplr, helps travelers find the unexpected. Check it out!

What inspired you to create this startup?

I was inspired by all of the travelers I met throughout the globe over the years. I exchanged travel tips with them and I used this info along with Lonely Planet’s information. I realized that the travel market is missing a specific tool where you can keep all of this special information well organized. Mobile apps are the perfect solution.

Our ambition is to build a community of smart travelers who use Tiplr to share the hidden gems they find around the world and to organize their travel tips in an evolved digital version of the old-fashioned travel guides, something as exhaustive as a guide but as immediate as an Instagram post.

How did you build your startup?

With a small but mighty editorial team, a lot of passion, my digital creative skills and the money of our first investment to build the MVP version of our app.

What makes your startup different from other similar startups out there?

The travel market is teeming with competition, but we think our approach and the tools we are creating are very unique. We want to move away from the negative review culture surrounding travel and share our best experiences and tips, to help one another travel more and travel smarter.

The community is everything. Knowing the information you have is from a trusted source is immeasurably valuable.

Future versions of Tiplr will allow you to actually create your own guides, using your own tips and those of fellow explorers. Bloggers and writers can share these guides with an audience hungry for unique information that they can’t find anywhere else. Traditional guidebooks are fantastic resources, but they aren’t consistently being updated in real time, and as a traveler, you can’t customize them to your interests.

Do you have any tips for new entrepreneurs who want to create a successful startup?

Believe in your vision and do it, no matter the difficulties you face. Do not expect that will be easy, but working hard will pay you back!

You’ll never regret working towards a dream, even if it doesn’t turn out the way you thought it would. Be open to all possibilities, surround yourself with people you like, and believe in one another.
