Meet Travel Massive Tokyo Chapter Leader, Kevin Tsai

Kevin Tsai is a published travel writer based in Tokyo, and also one of our Travel Massive Tokyo leaders. Ready to learn some more about Kevin?

Kevin is particularly fond of practicing his foreign language skills and discovering great bargains while traveling. He has so far accomplished over two-thirds of his goal to visit 30 countries before he turns 30 years old this 2017. But what about his thoughts about Travel Massive?

We asked him a few questions below.

How did you first get involved with Travel Massive?

I attended a Social Media Influencer workshop in Tokyo where I volunteered to be part of the chapter after the event. It all started from there!

What motivates you to be part of Travel Massive?

Being with people in the same industry really motivates me! It’s as simple as that.

What kinds of current or emerging startups, travel companies, and tourism initiatives exist?

Tokyo is as much an international city as it is in touch with its rich cultural heritage. Recently there have been a lot of travel startups that in the local room-sharing industry, similar to Airbnb.

Do you do anything unique at your meet-ups?

So far, we’ve had speakers from huge companies like Facebook and Google at our last event. We’re starting off large!

How has Travel Massive helped you professionally?

Travel Massive has helped me grow professionally by realizing there are far more opportunities in the travel industry that I could have ever imagined.

Do you have a past event that was your favorite?

The most memorable one was the last event held by the Tokyo Chapter in November 2016. We were quite busy the whole time but the turnout was impressive! There were about 75 people in attendance and we had Kei Shibata, CEO of Venture Republic and Travel.jp, talk about Travel Massive while introducing an evening chat with Google, Facebook, and Trust You. We talked about “Giant Steps in Travel”. How do the technology giants like Google and Facebook see the travel space? What steps are they taking?

What is your best advice to a newcomer who wants to attend a Travel Massive event for the first time?

Listen to the speakers; take notes if you have to. After the event, be sure to get to know people and grow your network!
