We’ve been acquired by Airbnb

April 1, 2017

TL;DR = Happy April Fools! Thanks for all the positive messages. We’re inspired! 🙂

Today, I’m very proud to announce that Airbnb has offered to acquire the Travel Massive global community, subject to approval by their board of directors.

This is an exciting step forward for our community of 30,000 travel industry insiders and those people who turn up to our events as +1’s.

If this goes ahead, Travel Massive will be moving into the Airbnb headquarters in San Francisco, California to begin the next chapter in our journey to build the world’s largest open database of the travel industry.

(TripAdvisor, eat your heart out).

The acquisition will allow us to hire additional software engineers, community managers, koalas, and chapter leaders to reach more than 10,000 chapters around the world and to connect with every single tourism company and organization in a meaningful and positive way.

As part of the deal, Airbnb will also acquire the title to our Greek Island that we purchased in 2015, and will be developing it into a hub for sustainable tourism research.

This deal will also allow us to focus on solving the truly big tourism problems including realtime airfare availability, breaking down the barriers of travel distribution, and learning how Australians can exist in every bar in the world.

Airbnb spokespersons Dara Keller and Brett Khosrowshahi commented that “our competitors Pricepedia and Exline are extremely jealous that we’ve purchased Travel Massive” and added “Brian Chesky is even considering to rename ourselves to MassiveBnb as it sounds bigger and even more awesome”.

Finally, we are also excited to announce the first Travel Massive Global Gathering (#TMGG) will be held at the Fuji Rock festival and curated by travel industry legend and casio watch collector Kei Shibata (and a founding investor in Travel Massive) in July this year. Stay tuned!

Thanks again to all of our community for your support, and happy April 1st!
