Member Interview – Kevin May, Editor of PhocusWire

As the Phocuswright Conference in Florida wrapped up last week, we caught up with PhocusWire editor Kevin May and asked him about a couple of questions about their new travel news service.

If you don’t know Kevin May – he’s been covering travel technology and startup news for the past decade (and also helped to establish the London Travel Massive).

Kevin’s latest role is Editor in Chief of Phocuswright’s newly launched travel news service – PhocusWire – a dedicated B2B website and daily newsletter delivering news, interviews, analysis and opinion on digital travel commerce, technology, distribution, and startups.

Here’s the video!

What were the highlights from this year’s Phocuswright Conference?

Kevin spent two days at the conference interviewing the top travel industry executive from around the world – here’s his tl;dr.

The Tours and Activities market is starting to mature and investors are waking up. Brands like GetYourGuide and Klook have raised large amounts of money in the past few weeks. Redeam won a trio of awards – that’s a signal.

What about the large established brands and investors?

On the back of a terrible day on the stock market for online travel agencies, is there some kind of course correction going on? Why do they have poor results? The OTAs have had better weeks.

How can members contribute to PhocusWire?

If you’ve got a hot topic on travel startups, travel technology or distribution where the primary motivation is to break/explain the news or add an opinion – then write to Kevin at kmay [at] phocuswire.com.
