Startup Spotlight – Experience Living With A Local

Jessa Molyneux has been a member of Toronto Travel Massive since 2015. She caught the travel bug from her parents at a young age and has experienced living in Australia, Switzerland and Germany. These experiences drove her to join roomfortea, a start up focused on local exchange in mid-term accommodation space.

How did you get into the travel industry?

Although I was born in Canada, my background is half Indian, one quarter Irish and one quarter German. I got into the travel industry because of the experiences I had visiting family overseas.

The travel industry is a group of curious, interesting people and I enjoy working with them. When I saw roomfortea I contacted the founder Milena Bottero – and the rest is history!

What is roomfortea?

Roomfortea (www.roomfortea.com) is a co-living platform that connects guests who are new to a city with friendly hosts for affordable accommodation. Focusing on local community, roomfortea’s platform matches entrepreneurs, creatives, artists and young professionals with local hosts for mid-term stays.

What is unique about your product or service?

As a guest or host, you connect with people you jive with based on personality, interests, and living habits. Guests and hosts are verified and connect on the roomfortea platform to arrange their stay. The average stay is 2-3 months and 35% of the time guests extend their stay!

How is roomfortea changing the future of travel?

Roomfortea creates co-living experiences where new arrivals explore, share and exchange with local hosts. Imagine, you’ve just arrived in Paris and like you, your host is a vegetarian. She works as a designer, stays up late and is always wearing a different coloured scarf. Design your living environment so you can experience the things that matter most in a new city!

What’s another travel company you admire and why?

We are big fans of Blablacar, a ridesharing service for rides between cities and workplaces. Drivers commuting to a location are matched with passengers looking to travel along their route. Besides offering a sustainable, affordable solution for travel, what we love about Blablacar is that you match with a driver according to how talkative you are!
