Tracking Cheetah with SANParks
This is a guest post by Neil Jansson and the African Travel Crew. Neil is a passionate and proud African and heads up the Africa Travel Massive.
Celebrating International Cheetah Day
Did you know that International Cheetah Day is on 4 December every year?
In December 2017, Mountain Zebra National Park (MZNP) outside Cradock in the Eastern Cape also celebrated ten years since the reintroduction of the species in 2007 after being absent from the plains of the Karoo for 130 years.
MZNP is the only national park to offer a cheetah tracking activity, and has been instrumental in contributing towards national initiatives to conserve the species.
Travel Massive was invited to come and see for themselves how Mountain Zebra National Park has enjoyed a number of successes with cheetah since the arrival of two male and two female cheetah a decade ago.
How can Travel Massive Members get involved?
Fayroush Ludick from Frontier Region Communications explains how members can support SANPark’s cheetah conservation initiatives:
SANParks Honorary Rangers
The SANParks Honorary Rangers movement is open to people with a passion for nature and a dedication to support the South African National Parks. They facilitate various activities through which the public can become involved in support of SANParks and enjoy the wonder of our natural heritage.
