Event Recap – Lagos Travel Massive Talks Startups and Connects Tourism
The Lagos Travel Massive held their third event in Nigeria’s largest city in late October. Here’s what happened.
This event recap is from Sam Adeleke – one of the founders of the Lagos Travel Massive Chapter and Curator of #NigeriaTravelChat.
Thanks to the Lagos chapter leaders Oluwakemi Ojo, Innocent Uchenna, Azeez Alimi and Sam for organising the event and bringing the tourism community together.
It was an afternoon of fun, laughter, drinks and networking as all roads led to the beautiful Cactus Restaurant, a lovely waterfront spot in the heart of Victoria Island, Lagos. The event kicked off with an Ice Breaker session moderated by the witty Ayomide Shittu, a Nigerian-American travel junkie on holiday in Lagos.
What was unique about this event? What stood out?
What stood out was the pep talk by Lola Ekugo, CEO TransThat.com, a tech travel company based in Lagos.
Aside the cute souvenirs she brought for us, Lola talked extensively about the problem her company is solving in the travel space. Specifically, Transthat connects travellers who have extra luggage space and want to earn some money to folks in Nigeria who want to buy items from abroad.
Breaking The Ice
We had two exciting game sessions. One was the Ice-Breaker. The other was Two Truths and One Lie! Everyone took turns to state three things about themselves, two of which must be true and the last, a lie. So the audience had to guess which of the three statements was untrue.
As expected – the games provided a great atmosphere for everyone to know each other better.
Panel Discussion
After the game sessions, we moved on to the final session which was a brief 5-minute panel discussion with Omotola Itayemi, a veteran Travel and Tourism Journalist with ThisDay newspaper, Ayomide Shittu (Lawyer and Co-Founder, AsoEbiCity.com), and Deji Ajomale (a Golf Tourism Promoter).
The trio shared brief insights on their work, how they generate income and how the Travel Massive Lagos community can explore blue ocean strategies in tapping the potentials of the sector.
The hangout ended with networking, speed networking, selfies and group pictures.
What an unforgettable experience it was. The pictures, videos, boomerangs and reviews on social media says it all. Countdown to the next hangout in December has started. We can’t keep calm! Travel Massive Lagos is here to stay!
