TBEX Ostrava Speaker Spotlight – Mike Huxley

Michael Huxley is a published author, professional adventurer, travel blogger and is hosting one of TBEX Ostrava’s (26-28 July) workshops.

Michael is an accomplished writer, a nurse by vocation with an interest in emergency nursing and travel medicine and a member of the Manchester Travel Massive chapter.  We recently spoke to Michael about the challenges that travel bloggers face in an ever-changing world and how is he joining the team at TBEX to help bloggers face these challenges. 

How did you get into travel?

Like so many other people I wanted to see the world, learn about myself and have a grand adventure! That was over fifteen years ago and now look where I am.

Can you explain what participants will gain from your TBEX workshop?

My workshop is designed to guide bloggers on how to take their blog to the next level. By turning their hobby into a fully established brand and business. The workshop will show them how to go from accepting a few freebies from their hobby to earning a professional full-time income. By walking them through the step by step practicalities of branding, establishing authority, building varied income streams and knowing their worth when pitching and working with brands amongst other things.

This intense workshop will teach bloggers everything they need to know to make their blogs an independent, income generating business.

What problem are you solving in your TBEX workshop?

As well as providing a practical session on building a professional business out of their blog, on a larger scale I am guiding bloggers away from the hobby ‘freebie grabbing’ mindset of blogging in the past and instilling a more professional, business orientated ethos. I am educating travel bloggers on how to avoid the bad practices and outdated mindsets of the blogging world as a whole, showing them how to rise above the masses.

How to survive and thrive alongside travel industry leaders and professionals.

How are you working with TBEX to create a positive future for travel bloggers?

By not only providing bloggers with knowledge and expertise from travel brands and industry leaders, as well as networking opportunities to grow their individual businesses, but on a larger scale by acting as a thought leader in the fast-changing world of blogging and providing the paradigms, precedence and examples of best practice to guide each and every blogger as a whole toward a more professional, business orientated future.

Who’s your hero?

Sir Ranulph Feinnes comes to mind first. He was a soldier in the British Army (we’ll let him off for being a Rupert), a true explorer and adventurer in every sense of the word and is even an author and a poet. Awesome guy and well deserving of being a role model.
