Cocoon Browser’s Affiliate Program For Travel Bloggers

Cocoon is a free browser on a mission to help protect the privacy and online safety of travelers. In this Q&A we learn about their app, product roadmap and their recently launched affiliate program for bloggers.

David Goodman-Smith started out in travel industry working in hospitality on the Island of Saipan (in the Pacific Ocean) and has spent a decade living in China working in the study abroad industry. He now resides in California and is the Marketing Manager of Cocoon – a browser that helps travelers safely and privately get online.

What is the Cocoon browser and how is it beneficial for travelers?

The Cocoon browser is a product created by Virtual World Computing that wraps up privacy, anti-virus, VPN and other advanced security features into a single, secure web browser that you can use from anywhere.

Our product protects travelers from malware or viruses which can easily be placed on insecure networks by hackers.

Unsecured WiFi networks can’t be trusted – anyone spending lengthy periods of time on these public unsecured networks is putting themselves at risk.

Cocoon has the same functionality as modern browsers (it’s built on the same technology) so it’s easy to use. As an additional security measure, any settings or history you choose to save are all stored in the cloud.

What kinds of travelers are using Cocoon?

Digital Nomads. Location independent travelers are frequent users of our app – they spend time utilising WiFi from on the road from cafes, hostels and Airbnbs – often these networks are not secure.

In addition to enhanced security, Digital Nomads can use our app to catch up on TV shows and access news from home that is often restricted for various reasons – also knowns as ‘geo blocking’.

Users can bypass geo blocking with our browser.

Business Travelers. Another large user of our app is the business traveler – who are online frequently in airports, on airplanes and in hotels. Business travelers are concerned with the security and privacy of their content and need a product they can rely on to deliver online security.

Instead of using three different apps or running different programs on their laptop to get the same level of protection, travelers can get that all from just using the Cocoon browser.

Can you give us some examples of how travelers are using Cocoon?

Accessing geo-blocked content. A lot of travelers enjoy using Cocoon as a free “VPN” product, which allows them to access geo-blocked content such as video and news streaming (such as Netflix).

Securely booking travel. Another common use is for booking flights abroad – with the Cocoon browser you can search and book flights or hotels as if you’re back home in the US – this can often mitigate your bank blocking the charge if you’re in a far-flung foreign country.

Stefan and Sebastian from Nomadic Boys recently reviewed us –

The thing we loved about it the most is that unlike the paid VPN services we used in the past, Cocoon is a much faster VPN service. – Nomadic Boys

We love to hear how travelers use our product – get in touch if you’ve got a great example of using Cocoon on your travels.

How did you get involved in Cocoon?

My personal background was in the travel and study abroad industry. In this industry (especially in China), everyone is spending vast amounts of money on VPNs and anti-virus software. I wish we had had our product back then.

I’ve been concerned about the lack of online privacy and I want to help educate consumers and travelers – so I decided to get involved with Cocoon as the founders of our company share these values.

How does Cocoon make money?

We offer a free ad-supported version, as well as a paid upgrade that provides ad-free browsing (for $2.49/month).

Importantly – we only serve ads that can’t track or identify users.

Privacy on the web is our mission, and we would never compromise that for ad revenue.

We’re also working on a membership club called Cocoon Club (read further in this article for details).

How does your affiliate program work for travel bloggers?

We’ve made the Cocoon affiliate system really simple for travel bloggers and website owners to generate revenue from.

We pay affiliates $5 for every qualified download of any version of the Cocoon browser.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Sign up to our new affiliate program via HasOffers.
  2. We provide each affiliate with a unique tracking link.
  3. Share the link to your audience and earn $5 for each qualified download.

To qualify for a download – a visitor referred from your website (using your affiliate link) simply needs to register on the Cocoon website (either a free or paid account), download the browser, and then login.

The tracking link will set a 30-day cookie, so if the visitor downloads the browser and registers within that time-period, you’ll earn the referral commission.

Bloggers can recommend our product in an article, newsletter, or in the ‘helpful resources’ section of their blog. As an example, here’s a review article published by one of our top affiliates.

Our value proposition is easy to communicate to your audience – we’re a browser with privacy and security for travelers.

We recommend that you try the Cocoon browser for yourself so you can see how easy it is to install and use.

(Before you get started as an affiliate, you’ll also need to review our affiliate program terms and conditions and ensure you are eligible to participate.)

What new features are you developing that will benefit travelers?

I’ve been working with the product team I’m really excited about the product road map.

We’re about to launch our browser for Android and iOS so that our customers can use our product on both their desktop and mobiles.

We’re also launching a membership program called Cocoon Club – this will offer cashback on purchases made through the browser with partner websites – including hotel and flight bookings. The cashback will be deposited into your PayPal, or a number of other options.

Take a look at our video, or download and try it out for yourself.
