Startup Spotlight – Eightydays.Me Aims to Help Travelers Hack Multi-City Trips

Belarusian and San-Francisco based startup Eightydays.me is developing a service to help travelers optimize their travel itineraries to fit their time, budget and interests.

Aleh Tsikhanau (CEO) and Hanna Zhyhar (VP Marketing) met our founder Ian when they pitched at Travel Tech Con in San Francisco in June this year.

Here’s our startup Q&A with Aleh, CEO of Eightdays.me:

How did you get into the travel industry?

I spent almost all of my life organizing concert tours for artists and traveled with them. It is a very hard job, as you need to make sure the artists feel comfortable so that they don’t lose energy during their transfers and are still able to perform well on stage.

Making sure that the program is well balanced applies to any trip. After this experience with concert tours, I thought… why not optimize all the travels in the world, simplify the life of all travelers. That’s how the story of Eightydays.me started.

What is Eightydays.me about?

Eightydays.me is smart and effortless way to design your travel itineraries.

We offer an all-in-one trip planner and search engine, from commercial flights, trains, buses and ferries to hotels and vacation rentals through Airbnb and Booking.com.

Our user interface makes it easy to visually choose, optimize and edit results to get an awesome adventure.

What is unique about Eightydays.me?

The human brain can’t solve the optimization problem quickly without opening dozens of windows and taking additional time for studying the issue. People use search engines, spending a lot of time and energy on researching the best options for their trip.

And often they don’t know that, for example, the price of their trip can be much lower if you just change the order of the cities you visit or add an intermediate city. Yes, you need to go through a huge amount of data in your head to optimize your itinerary.

People can’t imagine that in addition to visiting Paris, they can plan a trip to several other cities for the same budget.

We are creating an easy and fast solution for people’s travels.

How is your startup changing the future of travel?

In the last three years, almost all of the online travel agencies have been looking towards artificial intelligence (AI) and dynamic packaging, understanding that the preferences and interests of users change at the speed of light.

More and more people want to make their trips unforgettable and spend minimum efforts planning them. But, often, travelers have to spend a few days before they find the ideal route. A huge number of people are simply afraid of traveling because they don’t know how to optimize their time and budget.

That’s why part of our company’s resources was sent to create an auxiliary easy tool for people who like to plan on their own but still need a little help. We let them plan their trip, we just help them with a few details.

This freedom creates an enabling environment to launch a new product which includes many aspects of trip planning at once.

What’s another travel company you admire and why?

Airbnb. Definitely.

They are “about travel” more than anyone else. Their functional, regular updates and new features are really cool and inspiring. Airbnb helps people to really experience the destination, to feel like the locals. That is what we also believe in.
