Event Recap – MassiveBrunchHACK with Travel Massive Africa

Travel Massive Africa partnered with #HACKTOURISM to provide a series of Pop-up Travel Massive Digital Workshops across the country with first event in Mbombela.

This event recap was written by Neil Jansson, chapter leader of Johannesburg and Africa Regional Organizer.

#HACKTOURISM is a movement that focuses on the tourism and hospitality industry in Southern Africa and aims to train, equip and prepare the businesses to better use digital, online and social to drive bottom-line value for their businesses.

Massive BrunchHack - Travel Massive Africa

The first of series of #HACKTOURISM events was held on July 20th in the city of Mbombela, Mpumulanga province in South Africa. The wonderful Casambo Exclusive Lodge welcomed the tourism professionals who were eager to learn more about the power of the digital tools.

The aim of the event was to give everyone the necessary skills and confidence to create engaging content that will ensure they receive that booking for their tourism business.

Some of the discussed topics included: 

  • Consumer Centric – do we even know what that really means?
  • Hyper personalization – how do you even spell that?
  • Always on, always connected – travelers, tourists and locals.
  • CTA – that’s not a new diet.
  • Experiences first, then destinations or brands – what they really care about?
  • Top travel Hacks – Where to focus your energy? ( With case studies)

Massive BrunchHack - Travel Massive Africa

The topics were presented by: 

  • William Price – a digital agency veteran, who has worked on both sides of the boardroom table, as a client and agency, and has experience in two multi-national organisations.
  • Mqondisi Gumede – a strategist, analyst and facilitator who has extensive experience in the interconnected fields of strategy, people, marketing and digital.
  • Neil Jansson – Neil has been active in the Tourism Industry for over 28 years, he has experience as both a product owner and marketer, allowing him to share his expertise, successes and failures from a perspective you can relate to.

Part of the event was also the African Travel Crew – a collaborative of creatives creating content for the travel trade and related products and services, based in South Africa.

Among the attendees were Tom Vorster and Nomkhosi Tshabalala from Kruger Lowveld TourismMagda Campher from Nabana LodgeAllison Cooper from Allycats Public Relations, and more.
