What you need to know about WiT Singapore 2018

This October, WiT Singapore is encouraging you to look deeper into the world of online travel and join leaders as they uncover new ideas and trends in the industry.

We asked Marissa Trew – Content & Marketing for Web in Travel, about this year’s conference theme, speakers and what’s the best thing about the conference.

For people new to the travel industry (or who haven’t heard about WiT) – what is WiT all about?

WiT (Web in Travel) is the most significant travel tech event in APAC – if you want to know everything that’s happening in online travel in the region and meet everybody who matters, this is the place to be.

This year’s theme is “Through the Looking Glass”. We aim to encourage the travel industry to look beyond their verticals – whether it’s airlines, hotels, travel agents, tourism boards, tech providers – and collaborate like never before.

To the customer, travel is one connected journey. Yet the industry is fragmented in its thinking and behavior.

We also feel there are lessons to be learnt from other industries that have also undergone disruption, and experiences can be transferred and shared.

Who are some new presenters this year and what themes will they be talking about?

The star of our programme is diversity, not any single individual or any single brand. Our programme is curated in such a way that it blends the best of global brands and local heroes, the best of West and East and a cast of speakers that represent the diversity and dynamism of APAC travel.

For example, at our WiT Bootcamp on October 15, we’ll get an in-depth look at startup ecosystems around the world – including China, Taiwan, Philippines, Nepal and Israel – to find out where the unique opportunities lie and what makes each market tick.

💡 Check out our full 3-day programme.

How will startups (and investors) benefit from the Startup Pitch competition?

The WiT Startup Pitch is one of the most dynamic travel startup pitch competitions in Asia Pacific. The chosen startups will take the stage at the WiT Startup Pitch semi-finals round at the WiT Bootcamp on October 15.

Each startup will get five minutes to present their business idea before facing a 3-minute Q&A with our panel of judges. The top three will move on to pitch at the Grand Finals during day two of the main conference on October 17.

The startups will have their businesses exposed to our audience of investors for potential funding, fellow entrepreneurs for shared experiences and lessons as well as industry partners that could give their business a lift. Investors will have exposure to a vast array of travel startups across the region – from the Philippines to Taiwan and Israel – in one place.

What are three tips for attendees to get the most out of WiT?

  • Make new friends, don’t be shy. The WiT community is friendly, welcoming and embracing if you make the effort.
  • Listen to the ideas shared on stage, and think of how you can apply them to your business. We believe in sharing actionable insights.
  • Have fun. Reunite with old friends. Attend our parties. Enjoy Singapore. WiT is a total experience.
