Event insights: Paris startups with Chapka Assurances

On November 22nd, the Travel Massive community in Paris met at the stunning Welcome City Lab to see four emerging travel startups pitch their ideas to the live audience.

Thanks to Travel Massive Paris leaders Daniele Beccari & Florian Mesny for putting together this event recap.

This event was sponsored by Chapka Assurance, who provided not only the prize for the best pitch but also inspiration in the form of a  talk by Chapka’s own CEO and founder Geoffroy Bonnet Eymard.

After welcoming everyone with a few drinks and snacks, François Teyssier and Laurent Queige of Welcome City Lab opened the program and introduced the Master of Ceremony and Paris Chapter leader, Florian Mesny.

Who were the Startups presenting?

We witnessed four emerging travel startup pitch their companies followed by Q&A from the audience.

ClapNClip

An end-to-end “travel video factory”, ClapNClip offers travelers and businesses a professional video editing service powered by technology and human artists. We’ve all returned from holidays with hours of video tracks that we then let sleep, unedited and forgotten, on an old hard disk. It’s hard to share hours of video.

ClapNClic provides a simple end-to-end service – just send your videos and they do all the rest. The service is powered by a strong business model where tour operators or travel agencies can sponsor the service as a gift to their clients, then leverage the final cuts to showcase their dream holidays.

NannyBag

NannyBag operates a network of trusted, on-demand luggage storage locations. Travelers simply look up storage locations on a map, book time and then leave their luggage for as long as needed. With a network of thousands of locations around all major cities, NannyBag has demonstrated strong progress and scale with a relatively lean (and smart) team.

Okarito

Okarito’s founders want to turn business travel into a simple experience to save time and money for small and medium size companies. Tackling a large mid-market segment where no established player has been able to succeed, Okarito thinks user experience and simplicity can make the difference. With only three people on staff, they have already won their first customers – a promising first step.

E-bot7

The promise is to “supercharge your customer service through the integration of artificial intelligence”. E-bot7 is based in Berlin, and after successful launches with clients in Germany and UK, they are now entering France.

The bot technology solves the majority of simple and frequent recurring questions, then helps identify the best resource for handling more complex queries. While the area is very competitive with numerous bot companies promising the moon, E-Bot7 demonstrates a great track record.

Who Won?

All four startups are working on great ideas and gave great presentations, but there could only be one winner. And the winner is… NannyBag.

The panel liked how the business optimizes unused storage space and makes it a win-win model for both travelers and location operators. The idea is not new – multiple other startups are offering a similar service, but NannyBag seems to be very advanced on their way to offer safe storage rooms across 200 cities around the world through their network of partners. Well done.

NannyBag wins one year of travel insurance for their founders, sponsored by Chapka Insurance.

The event was not over as Geoffroy shared insights on his entrepreneurial experience. While we can’t fully report on anecdotes, we’ll all retain his focus on customer satisfaction and his praise for the work of many travel bloggers who are “way more influential than they think”.

Chapka’s team also had several goodies to offer to all startups.

With everyone happy, our thanks once again go to Geoffroy, Séverine and the Chapka team for their continuous support to the Travel Massive Paris, as well as François and Laurent for opening once again the doors of Welcome City Lab.
