Event Recap – A Heritage Photo Walk Through South Mumbai

At the beginning of December, Travel Massive Mumbai went on a 2-hour heritage photo walk through South Mumbai.

Thanks to Roxanne Bamboat for the event recap. Roxanne is a food and travel writer at The Tiny Taster. She leads Travel Massive Mumbai.

The photo walk was hosted by No Footprints, a tour company specializing in local tours highlighting hidden gems throughout the city. We were excited to try their Colonial Heritage Walk through South Mumbai.

The event was unique because we’d never done an outdoor meetup – this was the first gathering that wasn’t in an enclosed space with a speaker and a presentation. This was a tour to explore our own “backyard”.

The walk was aimed at shedding light on a part of the city that’s full of history and culture. South Mumbai is really the heart of Mumbai. It was the first to be developed and is full of historic significance, beautiful buildings and architecture and what is often called the Colonial part of town.

Our tour started at The Gateway Of India and the iconic Taj Mahal Hotel, then we headed down to the Colaba and Fort precinct, to the university side to explore the popular RajaBai Clock Tower (built to resemble the Big Ben), and then towards Horniman Circle to the St Thomas Cathedral and the famous Asiatic Library.

It being a photo walk, many of the participants were photographers or budding enthusiasts and took lots of pictures while learning little fun facts.

Interestingly, while most all of the attendees were from Mumbai, we learned a lot about our own city – small facts and interesting sights that we had no idea existed. All in all, it was a fun morning spent discovering our own backyard.

In addition to the walk, some members took the opportunity to have tea and breakfast at an Iranian cafe and get to know each other better.

Special thanks to…

A huge thank you to No Footprints team that did a remarkable job showing us around. Thanks to all our regular attendees – Parampara Hashim Patel, Kaushal Karkhanis, Parichay Mehta, Kunal Bhatia, and more.
