Startup Spotlight – Trvl Porter, Your Personal Style Concierge for Travel

Meet Stefanie Nissen, an LA-based entrepreneur who is transforming the way people travel and experience fashion with her startup Trvl Porter.

Stefanie is a member of Travel Massive Los Angeles and before founding Trvl Porter began her career in the fashion industry as a fashion designer and personal stylist.  

How did you get into the travel industry?

Getting into the travel industry happened by accident!

A few years ago I landed at my destination and discovered my bag was missing.

My thought process was first “wow, this is inconvenient”, then it was “how nice would it be to arrive at a hotel with a styled wardrobe waiting for me when I get there.”

The idea of traveling with less luggage already seemed like a win and then I realized that if I could make this a reality I wouldn’t have to worry about outfit planning, packing or laundry/dry cleaning, saving me hours.

I started networking at industry events, surveying, interviewing and conducting focus groups with travelers and having conversations with hotels and airlines.

I spent a year researching and testing the business concept before we decided to launch it the spring of 2018.

We send a pre-styled, rental travel wardrobe of contemporary or local designers for your trip – ready and waiting when you arrive at your hotel or Airbnb. We are your personal style concierge for travel.

What is unique about your product or service?

While using Trvl Porter, you will travel with ease and without much luggage, which is something that few people have experienced. You will reduce the hours spent outfit planning, packing and doing laundry, joined with the personalization of a new wardrobe that you get to rent for each trip and then leave behind when it’s over. This has never existed for travel.

With a background in fashion and understanding the current retail landscape, I know renting is the new buying and discovering fashion by exploring local designers is key.

Before an upcoming trip, create a profile and fill out details such as your style/fit preferences and information about your trip itinerary. Our stylists will personalize a travel wardrobe for you to approve and those options will be sent to your destination. Our service is currently offered in the United States.

How is your startup changing the future of travel?

Trvl Porter’s vision for the future is for people to travel anywhere without anything.

We aim to have a sustainable approach with rental clothing, minimal shipping by utilizing local designers and reducing weight on planes which eliminates CO2 in the atmosphere.
