Travel Africa Day Experience launches at Social Media Week Lagos

In February, Travel Massive Lagos hosted a full-day Travel Africa Day Experience during Social Media Week Lagos.

Travel Massive Lagos co-leader Oluwakemi Ojo recapped the event for us. Oluwakemi is a content strategist and an all-around digital marketer and founded Travelanders, a travel media startup that inspires people to travel and explore the beautiful destinations in the world.

Travel Massive Lagos partnered with Social Media Week (SMW) Lagos to host a Travel Africa Day Experience to showcase the connection between travel and digital media.

Featuring immersive travel content and engaging experiences, the event was held on February 5th, 2019 in the city of Lagos, at the Africa NXT Campus, Landmark Center, Victoria Island.

This year we decided to get the Travel Massive community involved and host our own program of events and talks featuring members from the community, dubbed ‘Travel Africa Day Experience’.

Debates, Panels, and… Karaoke 🎤

As part of the line-up events for SMW Lagos, we hosted an array of attention-grabbing sessions including debate, a discussion panel and networking sessions on Travel Africa Day.

The highlights of the event included:

• Travel Debate: Are Africa Travel Adventures worth the Trouble?
• Panel Discussion: Dilemma of the Millennial Traveller
• ALaCarteAfrica #ToYourTaste
• The Kahoot Game: Travel Edition
• African Karaoke Night & Travel Massive Meetup

Our event kicked off with the NXT Level conversation – a traveller’s tale with Noble Igwe, CEO of 360 Group, moderated by Sam Adeleke, one of our chapter leaders. This session was about the art of innovative storytelling and how to connect with places, evoke experiences and connect with your audience.

Our panel discussion section highlighted the dilemma of millennial travellers and how they can embrace domestic tourism in Nigeria. Our founder Ian Cumming, Nigeria’s renowned Photographer/Publisher Dayo Adedayo, the Convener of Africa Sports Tourism Week, Deji Ajomale Mc-Word and Digital Strategist/Travel Consultant Oluwakemi Ojo were present on this panel, as they shed more light on how to sustain the domestic travel industry and encourage the millennials to visit local destinations more.

The event also featured a debate about African adventures – the advantages and disadvantages of visiting African destinations. Speaking together with the audience were African travel specialists who shared their thoughts and experiences.

The speakers included are: Gbenga Onitilo of Air Namibia Nigeria, Funmi Oyatogun of TVP Adventures, Bolaji Seun and Olusola Segbenu of TravelAfcon.

We were especially excited that Travel Massive founder Ian Cumming was present at this immersive event, and he really made our day.

Thanks to our members and sponsors

Our line-up events were sponsored by CowryWise, Air Namibia Nigeria and FilmoRealty. CowryWise is a secure online savings and investment platform that helps travellers save for their travels and achieve their life goals. FilmoRealty is a management company in-charge of Lakowe Lakes, an exclusive golf resort in Lekki-Lagos.

Thanks to all Travel Massive Lagos Chapter Leaders, members and everyone who volunteered. This immersive event gave us an opportunity to work together as a team, bond well and spend meaningful time together.
