The Social Entrepreneurship in Tourism Competition 2019

The first annual Social Entrepreneurship in Tourism Competition, supported by Travel Massive, has launched. Find out how to submit your innovative ideas and projects that champion and help implement one or more of the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

Prof. Dr. Claudia Brözel, Professor for Marketing Management und eCommerce in Tourism at the University for Sustainable Development Eberswalde (HNEE), tells us all about the competition. Claudia is a member of Travel Massive Berlin

What is the Social Entrepreneurship in Tourism Competition?

The Social Entrepreneurship in Tourism Competition is the first worldwide competition focusing on social innovation and entrepreneurship in the field of tourism.

The competition aims to address problems that are caused through tourism development and try to find the best solutions to be implemented by the industry, governments, NGOs or local communities.

The structure of the competition follows the United Nation’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals, which include gender equality, sustainable cities and communities, and climate action.

Who organizes the competition?

The first Annual Social Entrepreneurship in Tourism Competition is supported by a strong team of industry advocates, who want to foster new ideas and perspectives in tourism.

Besides myself our team and jury consists of leaders at ITB Berlin, Berlin Travel Festival, Travel Massive and Stiftung Entrepreneurship.

The Tourism Competition is part of the Youth Citizen Entrepreneurship Competition. Founded in 2013, the global competition has inspired and educated millions of students to solve problems through entrepreneurship, through free online entrepreneurship courses.

How do you apply for the competition?

Your project or idea must champion and help implement one or more of the United Nation’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

As an example — your application might address waste avoidance, water management, or equal working conditions with specific ideas on how to solve the problem.

Individuals, organizations, start-ups, or foundations can apply to join and discuss their projects within the global community of the competition.

There is no age restriction for the Tourism Competition.

Community votes are open until the end of August, after which the finalists will be announced. One winner in each category (idea and project) will be announced at the Entrepreneurship Summit in Berlin on October 19, 2019.

Prof. Dr. Faltin (Professor of Entrepreneurship at the Free University of Berlin) will be opening up his academy for entries from the field of tourism.

The two winners of the competition will be provided with resources and support from each of the competition’s organizing parties, including coaching and community exposure.
