Lisbon cracked 23 riddles with Secret City Trails

In September, Lisbon Travel Massive explored the narrow streets of Portugal’s capital through riddles and discovery games with Secret City Trails.

This event recap is by Sandra Henriques – Lisbon Travel Massive leader, travel blogger and freelance writer. She runs Tripper, a travel blog on sustainability and culture, where she frequently writes about her two “homes” and top travel destinations, Lisbon and the Azores Islands.

Discovering the secrets of Lisbon

We met at one of the most beautiful viewpoints in Lisbon (Miradouro da Senhora do Monte) on September 3 to follow the 23 riddles that took us through the narrow streets of the Graça and Alfama neighborhoods.

Secret City Trails gave us three games to choose from and Travel Massive members voted for “Lisbon’s Alfama & Graça: Tiles and Tales.” Well, we can’t really share with you all the places we went (that would ruin the game) but everyone was amazed by the new spots they discovered.

It’s not that they hadn’t been there before, it’s just we, as locals, tend to overlook them. One thing is for sure, there are parts of Alfama and Graça that we’ll never see the same way again.

About Secret City Trails

We had so much fun with Secret City Trails on the event we had with them last year that we were excited they wanted to host another event.

This company of self-guided city discovery games was founded by Kristina and Wendy as a side project but quickly grew into a full-time business. They are now available in dozens of European cities and Lisbon alone has 16 games to choose from (so far).

I would like to thank Wendy for meeting us before we started the game, to see us off and to introduce her dream project to Travel Massive members.

👉 Secret City Trails is looking for content creators of city discovery games all over Europe — be a part of their growing network.

Team effort & networking

During the game, there was plenty of time to take in the views, take photos, chat and network, and take breaks and chill with a beer. It was a great team effort and we were genuinely excited when we answered a riddle correctly.

We named our team The Humbles (because we humbly assumed we didn’t know all of Lisbon) but in retrospect The Woohoos would have been a more accurate title.

Thanks to everyone who joined us, including Luli Monteleone, Ines Fernandes, Bruno Fonseca, and Christian Oliveira.
