Alliance for Downtown New York is looking for a visual storyteller to spend the summer in the Big Apple and show Lower Manhattan’s trendy spots and hidden gems to the world. Do you have what it takes?

The mission of the Alliance for Downtown New York is to provide service, advocacy, research and information to advance Lower Manhattan as a global model of a 21st century Central Business District for businesses, residents and visitors.

We asked Jessica Drucker, Director of Tourism and Hospitality, of Alliance for Downtown New York all about the Lower Manhattan Explorer In Chief Summer Dream Job Contest:

What is the Lower Manhattan Explorer In Chief contest all about?

This contest offers one content creator the amazing opportunity to live rent-free in downtown New York City and get paid to create content about the Lower Manhattan neighborhood all summer long (June 1st – August 30th).

The contest is organized by the Alliance for Downtown New York – we’re working to enhance the quality of life in Lower Manhattan and highlight its top sights, both known and undiscovered.

New York’s oldest neighborhood is constantly reinventing itself and great stories of the “original Downtown” are waiting to be told. I would say it’s the best summer job in the history of summer jobs!

Who is the ideal Lower Manhattan Explorer in Chief?

We’re looking for a visual storyteller, an urban explorer, a content creator who can own the camera but knows that the location is truly the star.

We want a natural-born explorer, a lover of small shops and tall skyscrapers – someone with a genuine curiosity about the people who live and work inside them.

Ideal applicants will have a nose for hidden gems, and the ability to truly get inside a place, its people and attractions.

The contest is open to all US citizens and anyone with the legal right to work in the United States.

For three months, the Explorer In Chief will be employed by the Alliance and compensated for their work with a monthly stipend, paid expenses and free rent at premiere Downtown properties, kicking off with a long-term
stay at the tech-enabled hospitality brand Sonder.

Can people who’ve never been to Manhattan apply?

Yes, absolutely! This contest is open nationwide to anyone who would want to live in New York City for the summer. You don’t have to know anything about New York, and from the moment you arrive, you’ll show the world your experiences and the magic of Lower Manhattan.

It’s a life-changing opportunity to work as a travel ambassador in one of the world’s highest profile tourism destinations, with the tools and support to create exceptional content.

Can you share a few examples of what the Explorer will do?

You’ll have your down time to grab coffee at the trendiest coffee shops in the morning and get lost alone in the cobblestone streets.

Then, you’ll get behind-the-scenes access to major tourist attractions by day, take a sunset cruise up the Hudson River, and find yourself in secret speakeasies late into the night.

You’ll also have staycations at our finest hotels and dine at restaurants with the best food – and views – in the city.

The Explorer in Chief will be creating video, social and blog content from his explorations in Lower Manhattan and will get full support of our marketing team.

What are your tips for a successful application?

In 60 seconds or less, your personality will shine as you show us what makes you a great explorer. Get creative enough to tell us a great story, but simple enough to show us that you’ve got video creation down.

There is not a requirement for an existing following of the candidates, but we will be looking at evidence of engaging content once we get to our finalists.

How can people learn more and apply?
