Calling All Startups: Apply For Singapore Airlines AppChallenge 2020

Singapore Airlines is calling all startups to join their annual AppChallenge and be part of the driving force in redefining the way we travel.

We asked the team at Singapore Airlines AppChallenge about this year’s competition, and for some tips for getting fast-tracked into their Accelerator Programme. Applications close July 12.

Who is the SIA AppChallenge for?

The SIA AppChallenge is for startups from all around the world across various stages. Singapore Airlines is looking for solutions that address 6 exciting challenge areas. This is an opportunity for startups to partner up with SIA and take their product or idea to the next level.

Solutions with the most business potential will be fast-tracked into the Singapore Airlines Accelerator Programme, where startups will build a Proof-of-Concept of their solution with funding support.

The objective is to have the startups collaborate with Singapore Airlines business units to gain deeper insight into the airline industry and pitch to win them as a potential client.

How will the AppChallenge address the current challenges to travel?

The COVID-19 epidemic has impacted every aspect of our lives fundamentally but nothing has been more disrupted than the travel and aviation industry. As economies are restarting, and travel is picking up again at different paces and in different ways – the time for innovation is now.

The SIA AppChallenge 2020 is an opportunity for startups at the forefront of technology innovation to partner with the world’s leading airline and be part of the driving force in redefining the way we travel.

What are some examples of previous finalists of the AppChallenge?

Last year’s grand winner was Dreamworld AR where they believed in the value of “Tech for People”. Dreamworld strives to deliver the most cutting-edge, yet affordable Augmented Reality technologies to everyone. They have demonstrated their product in the aviation context during the finale, impressing the judges and the audience.

What tips do you have for new participants?

Tell a great story about value: Show clearly how your idea unlocks value and addresses the challenge. Look from various angles and think about the gaps to address. Make your idea relevant and impactful.

It’s not just about the technology: Technology and innovation are critical parts but your ideas must be contextualised to our use case, and function in tandem with business, operational, and strategic considerations.

Be creative: Present your idea in creative ways, make use of visuals, and try your very best to wow the Singapore Airlines team. Do not hold back.
