Berlin LIVE Replay: Weathering the Storm ☔️

Over 100 members from around the world joined Travel Massive Berlin‘s online event on June 3 to learn more about how two Berlin-based organizations are dealing with the impact of Covid-19 on their work and future plans.

This event recap was written by Lisa Hübner. Lisa is a co-chapter leader at Travel Massive Berlin, a member of the Travel Massive core team and a marketing & PR specialist for the tourism industry.

Here’s what was shared during the event “Weathering the Storm”, which was moderated by Lydia Band, Berlin Travel Massive co-lead and Program Director at the Berlin Travel Festival.

We heard from:

Sandra Zschach, CEO of trip.me

Trip.me is a platform that puts travelers in direct contact with a growing network of local travel agents all over the globe.

Sandra shared a timeline of how the crisis has effected bookings on their platform and an outlook of where she thinks customer demand is going to be in the coming months, which will require their business to focus more on short- and medium-haul destinations rather than long-haul.

She also shared insights on how her team has adjusted to remote and short-term work and how they’ve been supporting both their travelers and partner agency throughout the crisis.

Dominika Szyszko, Project Coordinator at querstadtein

Querstadtein is a not-for-profit organization offering tours of Berlin by homeless people and refugees.

Dominika outlined querstadtein’s response to Covid-19, which has included fundraising and crowdsourcing, developing digital tours as well as “Corona-safe” formats now that guided tours are allowed once again in the city of Berlin. She also highlighted the challenges of their guides, who as homeless people were hit hard by the pandemic.

Thanks to our speakers Sandra and Dominika for sharing their insights and to our online audience for their great comments and questions!
